The Stemaids Mercury Tongs are specialized laboratory safety tools designed for the precise collection and handling of liquid mercury globules. Due to its high surface tension, mercury typically forms small, elusive beads that are difficult to pick up with standard flat-jawed tongs or forceps. Our mercury tongs feature unique split-cup (hemispherical) tips that act like a small ladle. When the handles are squeezed, the two halves of the cup close around the mercury droplet, allowing it to be lifted and transferred into a storage container without breaking the surface tension or scattering the hazardous substance.
