The Ticker Tape Timer, AC Type, operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When connected to a low-voltage AC power supply (typically 6V–12V), an internal electromagnet causes a metal reed to vibrate at the same frequency as the AC mains (usually 50Hz or 60Hz). A striker attached to the reed hits a carbon disc, leaving a dot on a paper tape being pulled through the device. The distance between these dots provides a record of the object’s displacement over fixed time intervals (0.02 seconds at 50Hz).
